"So come apart from the busyness of family and work,
and dwell in the presentness of God
who is our source of being."
- words for meditation today at Church in the Cliff
I think I find myself most excited in life when I see different areas of my life overlap ... in ideas, people, and spirit ... and I think I get so excited because I know it is the Spirit of God in all those things that connects it all. I sometimes don't know what to do with it ... except acknowledge it, smile (sometimes laugh), and know that this is the Truth in life.
For now, 3 areas of my life are connecting ...
1 Occupational Therapy School / Research - Anne Wilcock's theory of Doing, Being, and Becoming
2 Church in the Cliff - Dreaming The Church
3 A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle - Being present, living in the now, awareness and consciousness
Today at Church in the Cliff, these words in the meditation struck me. We live such busy lives that often lead us to this "unconscious" living that Tolle describes in his book, A New Earth. We go through motions and pass by people and live in our "thoughts," leaving us unaware of others, ourselves, and the beauty around us. He also discusses the idea of "living in the now" and choosing to be aware of what is going on ... to be present, to be our true selves. When I go to church, it is a place I can come and leave behind the "busyness" and be present with God ... and I know that He is there PRESENT with me.
In school, and particularly the research I have worked on for the past year has emphasized Wilcock's theory of occupation occurring through Doing, Being, and Becoming. Each of these words have a powerful meaning behind them and are integrated among each other. Being is defined as, "Being encompasses our natural human needs, the teasing out of our true selves from our supposed selves ..." (Wilcock, 1998)
The words for the meditation say that, "...God who is our source of being." This is so powerful to me ... knowing that God is the source from which we can truly "tease out of our true selves from our supposed selves." Our conversation at church focused on "Dreaming an Authentic Church." We often have been taught to wear a facade, and not let others see who we truly are, especially at church.
These overlaps of Tolle's insight on being present, where our true self can be seen by others, along with Wilcock's emphasis on being are clear messages to me to live life consciously with an awareness of others and beauty around me, and to know that this life is truly best lived when it is centered on God as its source.
