We took some vacation time to go see Kyndra's grandparents this weekend/week. We drove up on Saturday, leaving an hour later than we meant to.
As we got close, we heard that a tornado was near, and later learned that it went right through Granby - and right through/on/over Kyndra's family. We arrived there 45 minutes after it came through. We were delayed just the right amount of time!
Kyndra's grandparents live in a metal home on a hill ... and a few hundred feet away is Kyndra's Uncle's place (he and his family). They have a bigger home, with a basement, so Kyndra's grandparents went down there - in the laundry room in the basement - during the tornado. They were there alone, as everyone else was out at the moment.
And the tornado simply hit that house. In fact, her grandparent's place up the road is in good condition - trees down everywhere, windows blown out, but main parts of the house in okay condition. But, when they came out of the laundry room at the Uncle's house. They went upstairs and just found the sky. No roof anymore, things blown around everywhere. Crazy. Here is their house now.
We drove around, downed trees and powerlines everywhere, and eventually parked the car and walked 1/2 mile to the houses. We've stayed there helping pick up, support, and just be there too. We've never really been this close to a natural disaster, and it's pretty eye-opening. We'll have more to share soon. For now, here's some little pics we've been able to take along the way...
